Return Something to the Library!
Donating Materials:
Much of our library material comes from generous contributions made
by the community and by visitors. When items are donated, first staff
checks if we can use them on our shelves. If not needed,
items are sold in our Friends
of the Library Used Book Shop.
Either way, your donation benefits the library. The
Friends use proceeds from the Used Book Room to purchase items the library
needs, but are not covered in the regular budget.
We welcome the donations of gently-used books, audio books,
CDs, DVDs and videotapes for adults and children. Please do NOT donate
items with missing covers, heavy dirt, animal residue, water or smoke
damage, mold or bad smells.
If you have a large quanity of donations or
want to ensure they are within donation guidelines, please call the library
first at 715-634-2161.
Monetary Donations:
With the new facility come new costs. Expanding from 5,000 square feet
in the lovely old Carnegie building to nearly 14,000 square feet means
higher heat, electric and water bills. Also the library continues to raise
funds for furnishings and new technology. The City of Hayward handles the
librarys accounting and allows us to be under their insurance umbrella. As
our primary funding agent for operating expenses, Sawyer County has been
generous. However, the county does not fund the library one hundred
percent. We need your help to maintain the facility and to respond to the
ever increasing needs and expectations of our community and visitors.
Please print, fill out and return a library Donation Form with
your monetary gift. Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent
allowed by law. Please make checks payable to:

Sorry, the library cannot accept monetary gifts via credit card
at this time.

Our spacious and busy library provides many volunteer
opportunities. Although library statistics have doubled and the square
footage nearly tripled, finances dictate that we've only been able to add
one additional employee since the move. Consequently, our
volunteers are real lifesavers.
Volunteer coordinator Donna Yackel schedules volunteers for two-hour
sessions on a weekly, monthly or seasonal basis. Volunteers shelve returned
items, assist with paperwork, create bookmarks, make sure items are in
order on the shelves and more! The library staff is grateful
for all our volunteers generously sharing their time and
effort .
During this process, we have found that a few guidelines are essential.
To ensure the safety of children, adult customers and staff, we are asking
each volunteer to fill in a Volunteer Application
Form. The form also gives volunteers the chance to
indicate their areas of interest.
If you would like more information on volunteering for the library,
please print out theabove form and mail it/drop it off. Or,
you may contact Donna Yackel at PO Box 748, Hayward, WI 54843;
dnyackel@charter.net. She will contact you to discuss the
opportunities!
Note: To volunteer in the Friends of the Library Book Room,
please send in a completed Friends of the Library
Membership Application to the Friends at PO Box or
drop off in the Friends Book Room.
